- May we expect a full featured/professional GUI builder for SWT ?
- Will it be possible to implement new Widgets/FormTemplates that then can
be used by the visual editor ?
- What about Sweet ?
- What is the future of SWTworkbench ?
- What is the future of SWT-Designer ?
- Any plans to implement a layer on top of SWT/Swing that makes it possible
to write once for both UI toolkits :-)

Yes.

Sweet will be the foundation of the SWT editor.

SWTworkbench always has been more than just a GUI builder. We currently
intend to release products to enhance SWT that can be used with
Eclipse's SWT GUI builder. ASC has not announed any plans for the
current SWTworkbench code base.

Nobody has announced that they want to contribute this. Would you like
to? (Of course, there's the SWT/Swing interoperability layer that is
being developed, but that is different from what you are talking about).

Take a peek at the "Questions and Answers" doc listed at the top of the
"What's New" section of http://eclipse.org/vep. It answers most of these
questions.

I'd like to correct a small error here:

The VE Project is a subproject of eclipse.tools and as such inherits the
eclipse.tools charter. It does not have a charter of its own. This
charter reads in part:

Mission

The mission of Eclipse Tools Project is to foster the creation of a wide
variety of tools for the Eclipse Platform. The project provides a focal
point for diverse tool builders to ensure the creation of best of breed
tools for the platform.

The project will promote the Eclipse vision and attempt to foster

Based on this charter, we will definitely create a strong underlying
technical foundation on which other products can be built (and I expect
that Instantiations will continue to be successful at doing this as they
have been in the past).

In addition, I fully expect that what we do here in the Visual Editor
Project will continue to live up to the standard that we have set for
ourselves through the code that we have already released.

So if you're looking for a cool project to use and contribute to, you've
come to the right place. :-)
