Greetings! Thanks everyone for putting together such a wonderful tool. =
I've been wanting for years to put concepts like the RUPP, etc to work =
in my organization but we haven't had a budget for the products that =
were out there. Now I've got my hands on it and I'm excited.

I understand that most of you here are probably developers putting EPF & =
OpenUP together, I'll just be a common user. My questions at this point =
are very basic. I've read Per & Kurt's article in the Review as well as =
Peter's fine articles. I get the concept and love it. What I don't see =
yet is anything of a cookbook nature to actually get me going. =
Specifically;

- I've opened the program and see the library components. I see that I =
can choose the ones I want and customize them. How do I start a new =
project and save the work without changing the base library?

I guess one thing I should add is that the way I instaled the OpenUP =
executable it is seperate from my instalation of Eclipse. (That kind of =
surprized me.) Is that the problem? Should EPF be a part of the =
regular Eclipse IDE?

Composer. There are some tutorials which will get you started on EPF.

Well, I thought I had in. I went through the "Create a Method =
Configuration" steps and copied the OpenUPBasic configuration to one of =
my own naming (OpenUPBasic_For EC).

I selected that in the pull down box and in the library. I saw that the =
Configuration panel at the bottom also said OpenUPBasic_For EC as well.

Just to test I went in the Configuration panel to Disciplines/ =
Disciplines/ Analysis & Design and pulled up the Analyze Architectural =
Requirements document. I added some comments to the Change Description =
box and saved.

I closed everything out and reopened. The comments were there when I =
clinked the view history button but here's the problem. I closed =
everything out again, switched to the original OpenUPBasic configuration =
and went to the same document. The comments I had saved under my new =
configuration were there. I assume I'm still looking at the same page.

Again, what I'm trying to accomplish is to simply create a new, =
independent 'project' that I ca edit without contaminating the original =
documents or configurations.

I apologize for my ignorance but I'm missing a concept somewhere, what =
is it.

Hello Russell.
Check out the new series of demo recording that we provide on our =

The presentation called "Method Content Authoring" shows you how to do =
what you wanted to do.

The short answer is that you need to create your own plug-in in which =
you create your own task in which you either "contribute" you additions =
to the task or "replace" the task with your version.

EPF is a RCP application. So yes, it's a separate executable than your
standard Eclipse application.

Regd cookbook, when you open EPF, go under Help->Help Contents->About EPF
Composer. There are some tutorials which will get you started on EPF.
