CDT-error generating new project, openSuse10.1 [message #199306] |

hello,
after long troubles with my old installation (on a 64bit linux) I
installed openSuse linux 10.1 and eclipse totally new.
After that I got eclipse3.1.1 for java.
According to the installation instructions from Max Berger
(max@berger.name) I installed the plug-in for C/C++, CDT 3.1.2, via
"help/software updates/find and install/search for new features/Callisto
Discovery Site".
Everthing seemed ok, but when I now want to generate a new C++ project, I
get the following error message:
Plug-in "org.eclipse.cdt.make.ui" was unable to instantiate class
"org.eclipse.cdt.make.ui.wizards.NewMakeCCProjectWizard".
The button "Details>>" in the message window tells me:
java.lang.NullPointerException
What is missing and how to repair it?
I am a newcomer and welcome any help.

You have a mismatch of versions:
For
Eclipse 3.1.x, you need CDT 3.0.x
Eclipse 3.2.x, you need CDT 3.1.x
Eclipse 3.3.x, you need CDT 4.0.x

I too have 64bit Suse 10.1 and it makes no problems when using own java/eclipse
* Make sure to use a 64bit Java >= 1.5 from Sun (java --version) and not that gnu java 1.4
* You have to install a own Eclipse - the SuSE rpms are too old - Use Europa
* Make sure to install the 64 binary. The CDT Linux bundle download seems still not to offer
the 64 bit version. You have to download the Europa classic und then install the CDT plugin.
* Sounds complicated but ist not. :)
