Eclipse Plugin Central
The Definitive Information Portal and Marketplace for the Eclipse Ecosystem
http://www.eclipseplugincentral.com
The Eclipse Plugin Central Alliance was formed in 2004 by Instantiations,
Genuitec, Innoopract.
Our mission is to support the growth of the Eclipse community by helping
developers locate, evaluate, and acquire plugins that can help them deliver
their projects faster, better and cheaper. At the same time we provide
software publishers with a means to increase product sales through this
innovative new distribution channel. Eclipse Plugin Central donates a
portion of its revenues to the Eclipse Foundation.
Our goal is to:
* Be the one-stop destination for Eclipse plugins and information
* Provide useful, concise, topical and relevant information
* Simplify plugin location and purchasing for Eclipse developers
* Help plugin publishers increase customer reach and awareness
* Contribute to the growth and success of the Eclipse ecosystem
Eclipse Plugin Central is the community's answer to a reliable and
professionally managed information source for Open Source and commercial
plugins. Today, Eclipse Plugin Central adds value by offering: plugin
directory, reviews, ratings, news, forums, community, listings for products
and services, and support for the Eclipse Foundation. A complete eCommerce
marketplace will be added over time.
Eclipse Plugin Central helps developers to be more productive by providing
them the definitive directory of Eclipse plugins in a highly intuitive,
responsive and consistent manner.

What is the status of this 'alliance'?

Anything formal in addition to "The Eclipse Plugin Central Alliance was
formed in 2004 by Genuitec, Innoopract, and Instantiations."...

evolving to another type of organizational structure.

Eclipse Plugin Central was conceived and designed to benefit of all members
of the Eclipse ecosystem. It is founded and operated by three long-time
members of the Eclipse community (Genuitec, Innoopract, and Instantiations)
and our goal is to make it stable, reliable, and available to all members of
the Eclipse ecosystem.
In addition to information, news, forums, and other community resources, we
plan to offer developers the ability to sell products and services through
the site. The corollary of this is that we will offer those seeking
Eclipse-based products and services a single place to find a wealth of
additional functionality to support their software development activities.
The Eclipse Plugin Central Alliance strategically and financially supports
the new independent Eclipse organization, but there is no "corporate"
relationship between the two. Of course, there is really no "official"
plugin site since Eclipse is an open source community. One goal of Eclipse
Plugin Central is to become the leading site for Eclipse developers and
end-users to find and sell products and services. The 2Y site is another
source of information on plugins, we really can't speak for them.

To stop this 'discussion' you have to clarify the following:
- Why revolution, not evolution?
- Why 'good oldies' are really not so good?

Sam,
It is quite simple. Eclipse Plugin Central plans to add dimensions that
other sites do not have - namely the plugin marketplace where one can list
and sell a plugin if you so desire, and, where Eclipse developers and users
can easily find open source, freeware and commercial plugins.

I'd like to propose to close this topic here in ALL THREE newsgroups.
And move to EPiC, http://eclipseplugincentral.com .
It'd be really interesting to see coexistence of the Open Source and
Commerce. Eventually, we all have to eat. :)

Exactly, why duplicate?
Ok, eclipseplugincentral.com has (the intention anyways) more,
but I think the resources ($, server hardware, bandwidth) could
have helped http://www.eclipse-plugins.info much better, and just
add whatever wanted functionalities (maybe?) by working with
the people at eclipse-plugins.info?
What we get here is two sites that are not accessible most of the
time (from China anyways) because of the load.
Just thinking.

Well, personally, I don't have any problems with making money, as well as others making money.
I just feel that another site is more likely to *split* the community... I could be wrong, of course.
Take care, Ilja
