I am trying to find a way in Eclipse 3M8 to work in "smart indent" mode;
at the same time I don't want a cursor like "[" on the screen, I like "|"
cursor.
If someone knows how to achieve this - please help!

Thanks in advance!

Move to the later integration build (I20040424) :-)
