Is there a way to make the ant plugin ALWAYS use a separate jre? It's kindof
annoying to have to keep remembering to set it up to avoid the ant memory
leak.

Not currently.

Note
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=45899 which I have tagged to
be included in 3.0 M5

Sweet, given the memory issues I agree the default should be the other way.

Hi,

I spent a day trying to find a way to have the ant task run in a
separate JRE. No luck.

Looking at messages like the one below I know this must be possible.
I searched the eclipse archives, google and thge online help but
could not find it. Can you tell me how I have to set this up ?

You need to have a 3.0 M3 build or later and configure the JRE tab for the
Ant launch configuration
