Just installed it. Very quick on my system. I like what you have have
done with the curved tabs. They are still there but carrying the flat
line to keep a "square" window perspective works extremely well for me.

Kudos to the team!

Let me add my voice: congrats with another really nice interim build. My
work would be soooo much more boring without Eclipse :-)

Thanks from me as well! Keep up the fantastic job.
And the new look is very nice in my opinion.

Agreed. Awesome job! Tons of features. Only two things, when will the
rounded stuff be smoothed, and when will the code folding feature(s) be
added? Seems the main thing IntelliJ has on Eclipse is code folding,
whatever that is...

At the risk of piling on, I'd too would like to congratulate the developers
on M8.
I also like the new L&F and a lot of the new features.

At the risk of a being a real PITA, let me just say "keep up the work on 1.5
support"
and let us know if it is targetted for a particular 3.0 milestone. Thanks
again.

Steven, I would say the 1.5 support would be limited since it wont be out
until mid year anyway. I would think a 3.1 towards the end of the year would
provide 1.5 support.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know that 1.5 GA won't be until midyear but the
beta is out now
and I doubt there will be any major changes in the new language features.
You should
bear in mind that netbeans will support 1.5 from the start (netbeans 3.6
beta
already supports JDK 1.5 beta) so Eclipse not supporting it for 6 months or
more after
that will not be good. People starting new projects will want to start with
1.5 from the start.

They are working on 1.5. See
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=36938
to track progress. They seem to be preparing a preview.

1.5 from Sun in Q3 - 3 to 6 months away. Plenty of time to get ready,
given the progress I've seen in the last couple of milestones.

NetBeans 3.6 is not going to support JDL 1.5 'natively'. You still have
to tweak your setup with the information found on the NB website. That
is the last thing that I read on the NB newsgroup.

While waiting, you can use the genady Java 1.5 plug-in. I haven't tried it
with M8, but it worked ok on M7.

That's true and I'd be happy to "tweak" Eclipse 3.0 to get 1.5 support too.
I haven't seen any plan to make that possible though.

Well, it depends on what you mean by "works OK". It lets you compile
1.5 code but none of the great Eclipse features (for example, the "source"
and "refactor" stuff) works. Its fine for playing with 1.5. I don't think
its
usable for a real project.
