Hello everybody,
I'm having trouble correctly installing GEF/Draw2D to be able to use it in
my plugins. I have developed a plugin using Draw2D during the Eclipse 3.0
"RC" phase - and always installing via ZIP file - which worked quite well.
Now I tried the same thing with Eclipse 3.0 and GEF 3.0 and the update
site, with the following results:
* When installing via update site (using the "Eclipse Update Site" which
is already listed in the update manager), the plugins get installed and
show up in the configuration, yet I cannot use them:
"File"/"Import"/"External plugins and fragments"/ does not show the gef or
draw2d plugin at all.
* When installing via ZIP file (and after manually enabling the plugins in
the Product Configuration dialog), importing and using the plugins is no
problem.
Disabling and enabling GEF after installing via update site does not help.
In both cases, exactly the same plugins and features are installed in the
plugins/features folders.
Now for me, this isn't a big problem; however, I would like the users of
my plugin to be able to download GEF via the update site. What exactly is
wrong here?
In order to reproduce my problem, you probably need a completely new
installation of Eclipse, as previously installed GEF plugins seem to
change the situation somehow... I used the Win32 version.
Thanks,
-phil

I was able to reproduce this problem. I noticed that the GEF plug-ins and
features downloaded from the update site vary slightly from the downloaded
zips in that they all have a META-INF folder. I don't think that's causing
the problem though. The features are being recognized just fine by the
"Import External Features" wizard. All plug-ins are installed properly and
work fine. I'll look into why they are not showing up in the
PDE-Target-Platform list or the Import-External-Plug-ins-and-Fragments list.
