eclipse on linux - no text on dialogs [message #119881] Sun, 31 August 2003 21:34 Go to next message

Hi

I have a real show stopper!

I've installed eclipse SDK. I'm running j2sdk 1.4.1 and GKT+-2.2.0 on linux
slackware 8.1.

Eclipse starts fine, but when loaded there is no text on any dialogs.
Just the windows and icons.

Even when I go to close the window a dialog I'm guessing asks me "Are you
sure
you want to close eclipse?" with "Yes" and "No" on buttons is actually
just a blank dialog with two blank buttons.

I ran eclipse with the -debug flag and got this (it's useless but just to
show
I'm trying):

Start VM: /opt/j2sdk1.4.1/bin/java
-cp /home/ben/eclipse/./startup.jar org.eclipse.core.launcher.Main
-os linux
-ws gtk
-arch x86
-showsplash /home/ben/eclipse/./eclipse -showsplash 600
-debug
Startup: using configuration
file:/home/ben/eclipse/workspace/.metadata/.config/platform. cfg
Boot URL:
file:/home/ben/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.core.boot_2.1.1/b oot.jar
Startup: splash path =
/home/ben/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.platform_2.1.1/splash. bmp
Workspace location:
/home/ben/eclipse/workspace
Debug-Options:
file:/home/ben/eclipse/.options
Install URL:
file:/home/ben/eclipse/

I'm surprised it hasn't complained about not being able to find fonts or
something, or is this a gtk thing?

I hope someone can help identify the problem. I'm sure it's just a tweak.

Thanks,

You try change Dialog font in Window-Preferences-Font and set like Java
source (if font for Java source work)

You can see font in gnome (gnome-control-panel - font), too

Sorry Haris, but this reply doesn't make much sense to me.
"Window-Preferences-Font" - if that's a menu item in eclipse, forget it.
None of the menu items are labelled. I have no fonts!

As for gnome, there is no mention of fonts in the control panel that I can
see.

Hope someone can help!

Thanks,

Ben

To add an additional note. I suspected GTK+-2.2.2 so I downgraded to
GTK+-2.0.9

I soon changed back. Eclipse wouldn't even start. It spewed errors! Back
to gtk+-2.2.2!

Hope someone can shed light on this.

Thanks,

Ben
