Someone must know how to install CDT?? [message #102842] Fri, 21 May 2004 16:08 Go to next message

I have had no luck following the vague hints for installation. :-(

In particular, the UPDATES feature just hangs (I'll guess it's
related to firewalls).

Moving the CDT directories into Eclipse will show REFERENCES
to CDT, but New>Project still won't show "C++".

I notice others have run into this.

What to do?

Hello Bil,

Thanks to Manolo (manolo@itesm.mx) I've been able to figure out
my problems installing CDT.

For the record: I was interested in installing CDT-1.2.1
w/ Eclipse-2.1.2 on WinXP-Pro.

The following recipe worked for me:

1) You have to select the Install/ Update perspective.

1.5) In case you don't "see" the Install/Update perspective execute
Windows > Preferences and select the Install/Update box.

2) In the Install Configuration pane you open the Eclipse Platform
tree.

3) You select the disabled CDT item(s) and hit the Show Disabled
Features button.

I hope this solves the problem for you too.

Regards,

Viktor

Viktor,

I enormously appreciate the suggestion.

But it doesn't help. :-(

I'm trying to install the CDT 2.0.0 on Eclipse 3.0 on a machine running
Windows 2000. I have nothing in Eclipse yet.

This ought to be the simplest, most common installation of CDT. How
could it not work?

in the updates try to add a site

http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/updates/release/

and then select the correct version.

Hello Bil,

I had the same problems installing CDT on Linux. The reason is that maybe
you missed to install the make and managedbuilder plug-in.

You can get them at:
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/updates/builds/2.0M8/
(the two last zip files) or just add the link above into the eclipse
build-in update mechanism and then select all three plug-ins.

I don't know the reason why it is separated because it can lead to some
confusion :-)

Regards,
Alex

See: Help-> Software Updates -> Manage Configuration.
In taskbar select "Show disabled features" button

I've followed the suggestions of Viktor and Alexander, but no luck. :-(

I can select the C++ perspective, but I can't make a C++ project.
(The "new project" dialog only has two selections: Java & Plug-in.)

You folks have all done it. What's the magic trick?

Tobias,

That's what I did. (Or at least that's what I *think* I did!)

Certainly in the directory eclipse\features\ all three are there. I
don't see a method to verify from eclipse that all are
installed/active/etc.

Wait! ...

The glories of Win32! It made a duplicate directory and fooled me
into thinking I was installing correctly!!

It works now.

Thank you very much.
