Judging by this, your install has somehow become messed up. I would
recommend copying your workspace directory (or directories) to a safe
location, and then deleting the install. Download a new Eclipse 3.1.1.

org.eclipse.ui.commands.AbstractHandler hasn't changed since before 3.1.

cheers,

Hi Douglas,

Is there no other way? Downloading all that again will be painful on my
dial-up! :P

Can I not just replace AbstractHandler.class or
org.eclipse.ui.workbench_3.1.1.jar? If so, where could I find these files?

Also, is it normal that I still have 3.1.0 files after the upgrade? Like:

org.eclipse.ui.workbench_3.1.0.jar AND org.eclipse.ui.ide_3.1.1.jar

TIA.

It's too hard to tell what needs to be done.

It is normal to have 3.1.0 files after the upgrade. Any plug-in that has
not changed will remain as 3.1.0. However, org.eclipse.ui.workbench did
change, so this is *not* normal.

See "https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=112127" (and others) for
possible reasons.

Thanks D ...

I removed all the old versions of the files (3.1.0) that had newer
versions (3.1.1), and I no longer receive all the error messages that
looked like this:

!ENTRY org.eclipse.osgi 2005-10-16 19:47:56.36
!MESSAGE Bundle update@plugins/org.eclipse.ui.editors_3.1.0.jar [56] was
not resolved.
!SUBENTRY 1 org.eclipse.osgi 2005-10-16 19:47:56.36
!MESSAGE Bundle update@plugins/org.eclipse.ui.editors_3.1.1.jar was
picked instead.

For some reason they were not removed by the update manager.

Now all I have is the AbstractHandler error.

I get the feeling that that class somehow became corrupt during the
update process. I think (I really don't know much) it could be fixed by
replacing that file. Could you maybe send this file to me? I tried
compiling the java file in CVS, but received two error messages.

AbstractHandler.java:89:
fireHandlerChanged(org.eclipse.core.commands.HandlerEvent) in
org.eclipse.ui.commands.AbstractHandler cannot override
fireHandlerChanged(org.eclipse.core.commands.HandlerEvent) in
org.eclipse.core.commands.AbstractHandler; overridden method is final
protected void fireHandlerChanged(HandlerEvent handlerEvent) {
^
AbstractHandler.java:181: hasListeners() in
org.eclipse.ui.commands.AbstractHandler cannot override hasListeners()
in org.eclipse.core.command
s.AbstractHandler; overridden method is final
protected final boolean hasListeners() {

.... OK, so I don't really know what I'm doing! :o)

Please help if you can.

Try running with "-clean".

If it still persists, I would recommend downloading Eclipse again. I know
it will take a while on your modem, but there's not much I can do. You
only really need to replace "org.eclipse.core.commands" and
"org.eclipse.ui.workbench" for this particular problem. You might try just
downloading the "Platform Runtime Binary", and extracting the pieces you
need.

Thanks for your help, Douglas.

I'm sorry it took me so long to reply.

I ended up having to replace some JDT packages as well.

Take care,
