Eclipse CVS client and :local: method [message #280713] Tue, 08 February 2005 11:02 Go to next message

We need to use CVS together with Eclipse in a (small) pure Windows
environment. The easiest way to set up a repository would be to store it
on a commonly used network path and use the CVS method ":local:" on each
machine to access the repository.

However, it seems that the built-in CVS client of Eclipse 3.0.1 does not
support this access method. Is this correct?

One solution would be to upgrade Eclipse on all machines to 3.1 and
install CVSNT on the central "server" (and then connect to this server
using e.g. ":pserver:"). We wonder whether upgrading all our Eclipse
projects to the new version would be smooth.

Another solution would be to use WINCVS (that supports ":local:") on all
machines instead of Eclipse's CVS. Does WINCVS work together with Eclipse?

Any hints what would be the best?

Thanks,

E.

Some workarounds for lack of local connection support in Eclipse have
been discussed in https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=6892.
Also, the latest CVSNT, when properly configured, should work OK with
3.0.1 so you should not need to upgrade to Eclipse 3.1. If you decide to
use WinCVS and local connections, you can still use Eclipse but no the
Eclipse CVS client.
