Is there a way to do a split screen on the same file so
that I can compare two portions of the same file.

You can do that in emacs and some other editors. Is
there a magic keypress combo that splits the screen into
two windows on the same file?

When the editor is active use Window > New Editor and then drag the new
editor via editor tab to some other area.
