BIRT Pre-requisites - is Eclipse SDK necessary? [message #250500] Tue, 31 July 2007 08:30 Go to next message

Hi all,

the BIRT download page lists the prerequisities as follows:

Java 1.5 JDK/JRE; Eclipse SDK 3.3, GEF 3.3, EMF 2.3, DTP 1.5, and WTP 2.0

We would like to give our users the smallest possible client distribution;
this is why I am concerned about the need for Eclipse SDK 3.3.

Do you have any idea about if it is really necessary, and if so, why?
Or could be Eclipse platform sufficient?

thanks a lot

Pavel

You can give them the RCP Designer
http://download.eclipse.org/birt/downloads/
It's the 3rd Download on the list. It's a essentially just the report
designer component with all the required components from Eclipse.

Thanks, but unfortunately we need to distribute it together with
few other plugins providing an integration with our server-side apps.
This is why we need the plugin version rather than RCP.

By the way, if there is an RCP designer that obviously does NOT include
Eclipse SDK, perhaps the Report Designer plugin should work without it
too...
We'll try.
