regarding the support of a Date Picker component.

They are both closed (closed duplicate - don't understand why this is a
duplicate at all???) but still I don't see a date picker in the BIRT viewer.

Is this still work in pörogrss or has this been postponed for a later
version. I only see some base work being done, the support of a Date and
a Time Type . But I don't think there is already a UI picker component
for eiter Date or Time?

That 2 bugs are talking about the date type/date pick in designer.
That's why they were marked as duplicated.
What you need is a date picker in viewer, which I think it's a new
request to the viewer component.
Could you file a new enhancement for this in bugzilla under component viewer
