Is there support now or planned for weighted tree layouts in zest. That is
where the edge length is proportional to a specified weight or distance
between nodes. I would like to write a display for phylogenetic trees
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phylogenetic_tree) and I would need this
type of layout. Also is there support for right-angled connections between
nodes. This type of layout would be useful for certain styles of
phylogenetic tree.

If there is no tree layouts of this type envisioned and I am able to
develop one, how do I make the code available for others to use in Zest as
part of a future distribution.

This would be great!

I would love to see a layout for phylogenetic tree layout algorithm in
Zest. I could can help you get you started. The best thing to do, is
open a bug, and we can use that for the contribution.

As for the right-angled connections, I will look into this. GEF
supports it, so it should be to hard to add to Zest. I will let you
know what I find.

cheers,
ian
