TCPMon integration [message #22460] Wed, 12 May 2004 05:19 Go to next message

Hi folks,

I'm wondering if there is any interest in integrating tcpmon with eclipse.
I'd like to do some testing at the http level, including XML based
conversations. Httpunit/Junit work quite nicely in eclipse, but it would
be great if I could capture messages and replay them, perhaps with
modification.

Idealy, xml editing and processing facets could be applied to logged
content and messages dragged and dropped into my httpunit scripts. I
imagine SOAP and other WS tools could easily adopt this model.

Thoughts, comments, flames?

Oliver,

IBM has included a TCP/IP monitor in its proposed contributions. See
http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/eclipse-webtools/Wiki0064.h tml

We will contribute it as part of the Server Tools. We also have an
enhanced version for Web Services that is part of the Eclipse Web
Service Validation Tools project. See http://www.eclipse.org/wsvt/
The WSVT project has been running for a while. You can get the code and
contribute if you like.

Cheers Arthur,

I'm not sure I'd know where to start as a contributor, but I'm certainly
happy to share ideas. I'll browse on over to your newsgroup and see where
you're at. :-)

Oliver,

The way to start contributing is to download the WSVT SOAP Message
Monitor and test it. Report any bugs and suggest new features.

Just wanted to follow up to say the monitor in the WSVT project currently
allows recording messages. Replaying messages is not currently supported
but it is in the plan for a more enhanced message monitor/debugger. See
http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/indextech.cgi/%7Echeckout%7E/ wsvt-home/docs/articles/soapMessageMonitor/index.html
Please voice any ideas you have for the message monitor on the WSVT
newsgroup.
