M8 - CTRL+E not always working [message #219059] Wed, 31 March 2004 05:38 Go to next message

I see that CTRL-E brings up the list of editors only when not all of
them are visible (I set uo my preference to show multiple editor tabs).
IMHO this is very annoying as I (being spoilt by the greatest editor of
all times, eg IDEA) often type ctrl-E to jump to another open editor.

And often I am left with nothing after CTRL-E.,
I thnk this feature of the CTRL-E action should be revisited to always
show all open editors.

Hi,

I think Ctrl+E works only if not all of them are visible and it is the
intended behaviour. There is another keyboard shortcuts to switch to an open
editor:
- Ctrl+F6 - shows a list (behaviour is much like Alt+Tab on windows task
switching)
- Ctrl+Shift+E - editor management (shows a dialog where you have many
options related to editors - switch to, select and close, select and save
etc.)

HTH,
Regards,
Csaba

Seems like - but what would be lost if it was always enabled? If I go
for a way to navigate between editors, I don't want to switch the modes
depending on whether all tabs are visible or not.

I would love to see the two cool features of the quick list (Ctrl+F6)
and the type-in tool (Ctrl+E) merged. I.e.:
- type-in filter as with Ctrl+E
- easy cycling through the open editors as with Ctrl(+Shift)+F6 so I can
let go Ctrl once I am there and the right editor pops up.

Amen to that suggestion :D That would give me pretty much what I had in
Emacs!

If they added auto completion to the mix it would be perfect. Now if I
could just get the abandonned "New 3.0 Keybindnings" back I would be a
keyboarding fool :D
