Creation Reviews and UTC [message #20151] Mon, 23 May 2005 10:57 Go to next message

I received an email from a member today who said that he wanted to
attend today's Creation Review, but nobody was on the phone at 1500 UTC.
Unfortunately, he got the time conversion wrong and was an hour early.

I find this page to be very helpful in doing the time zone conversion:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

I also created dedicated links to the timezone conversion for each
Review on the calendar page:
http://www.eclipse.org/org/processes/index.html

As an example, today's review's link is/was:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=5 &day=23&year=2005&hour=15&min=0&sec=0&am p;p1=0
Clicking on this link, I find that 1500 UTC is 8:00am PDT.

Apologies for any confusion that Eclipse being a world-wide phenomenon
(and hence needing to use UTC rather than any specific timezone) is causing,
Bjorn

I can't resist ... though "off topic" for Eclipse.
The 'time' is the same.

But GMT is the deprecated :) abbreviation, and
UTC the "modern" abbreviation. And, if anyone wonders
how "UTC" got to be an abbreviation for "Coordinated Universal Time",

"In 1970 the Coordinated Universal Time system was devised by an international
advisory group of technical experts within the International Telecommunication
Union (ITU). The ITU felt it was best to designate a single abbreviation for
use in all languages in order to minimize confusion. Since unanimous agreement
could not be achieved on using either the English word order, CUT, or the
French word order, TUC, the acronym UTC was chosen as a compromise."
