I'm trying to setup MS Outlook to read the Eclipse News. I've set the
server to news.eclipse.org and I've set my login and password.

When I try synching up with the news server I get.

Your 'eclipse.newcomer' folder was not polled for its unread count.
Account: 'news.eclipse.org', Server: 'news.eclipse.org', Protocol: NNTP,
Port: 119, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I even tried a secure connection but I get.

Your 'eclipse.newcomer' folder was not polled for its unread count.
Account: 'news.eclipse.org', Server: 'news.eclipse.org', Protocol: NNTP,
Port: 563, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Does anyone have any experience with getting MS Outlook to read Eclipse
news?

Dear Eric,

I don't know, what Version of MS Outlook you are using. I'm using the old
Version MS Outlook 2000 and that Version doesn't support NEWS. Maybe newer
versions can support NEWS. But I don't know.

Try using MS Outlook Express. Outlook Express supports NEWS.

Hope I could help you.

Sorry if my english is not the best, but I'm out of school since 1982 and
I don't have the chance to speak english, except in Newsgroups.

Regards

Robert from Germany

Thanks, I'm using Outlook 2003. It actually starts up Outlook Express to
read news. I just can seem to get it to work. I don't know if I've
configurated it wrong or if our corporate firewall is preventing it from
working.

Cheers, Eric

Can you connect to other news servers? (You could try news.gmane.org,
for instance -- port 119, nothing special to configure.)

No, when I try connecting to news.gmane.org I get back "Unable to connect
to the server."
Server: news.gman.org
Protocol: NNTP
Port: 119
Secure(SSL):0

I'm starting to suspect our IT department is blocking it.

Cheers, Eric

This is a very important information.

If you are behind a firewall, the NNTP services could be blocked.

Ask your IT Administrator.

Try connecting to news.eclipse.org on port 80. We redirect that
typically-open port to 119.
