I have created a .launch file as per Jasons suggestion and want to know
how birt knows about its existance. Searched everywhere. Do I add some
command in the code creating the report engine. Does Birt just look for
a .launch file?

James,

I created a launch configuration when running the Viewer or the RE API in
plug-in format and debugging the application.
look on the Common tab of the launcher.
