Hi there,
I have downloaded and installed a pristine Eclipse 3.2M4, as well as all
the other dependencies listed for WebTools 1.5M4.
http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/drops/S-1.5M4 -200601131852/
After some research online, I discovered Wolfgang's homemade JBoss 4
server definitions for WebTools 1.0, which seem to work with WebTools
1.5M4 - thanks Wolfgang!
When running JSP page using Debug As|Debug on Server, JBoss 4
automatically starts up as desired, then the JSP page is requested and
displayed in an embedded browser inside Eclipse IDE.
Unfortunately, I get the following stack trace displayed in the browser
window when the JSP runtime tries to compile the JSP page to a class file.
exception
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
org.apache.jasper.compiler.DefaultErrorHandler.javacError(De faultErrorHandler.java:97)

javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:810)
org.jboss.web.tomcat.filters.ReplyHeaderFilter.doFilter(Repl yHeaderFilter.java:75)
root cause
Unable to find a javac compiler;

Perhaps JAVA_HOME does not point to the JDK
org.apache.tools.ant.taskdefs.compilers.CompilerAdapterFacto ry.getCompiler(CompilerAdapterFactory.java:105)

org.jboss.web.tomcat.filters.ReplyHeaderFilter.doFilter(Repl yHeaderFilter.java:75)
However, my JBoss server definition's "JRE" is pointing to JDK 1.5.0_03
so it should be picking up the JDK-based JAVA_HOME that includes tools.jar.
I even tried manually setting the JAVA_HOME environment variable in the
"Environment" tab of the JBoss 4.0.x Debug Configuration.
Does anyone know how I can use WTP on Eclipse 3.2M4 with JBoss 4?
Kind Regards,
John Fallows.

by default when creating a JDK runtime eclipse doesn't pick up the tools.jar
that is located in your JDK installation directory under /libs.
You need to edit your JDK Runtime and add the tools.jar to it.

Thanks Nicolay, that worked!
Btw, where should I file this as a bug/enhancement so that others do not
run into the same problem?
Kind Regards,
John Fallows.
