Launch Failure on WinXP [message #150252] Sat, 29 April 2006 04:50 Go to next message

I have NEVER successfully installed and run Eclipse, either on OS X or on
Windows. Tonight, I tried a completely clean install on my new Vaio. I
downloaded Eclipse for Windows, unzipped it and clicked on the Eclipse
icon. I get an error:

!SESSION Fri Apr 28 21:12:43 PDT 2006
------------------------------------------
!ENTRY org.eclipse.core.launcher 4 0 2006-04-28 21:12:43.937
!MESSAGE Exception launching the Eclipse Platform:
!STACK
java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not find framework
at org.eclipse.core.launcher.Main.getBootPath(Main.java:635)
at org.eclipse.core.launcher.Main.basicRun(Main.java:272)
at org.eclipse.core.launcher.Main.run(Main.java:973)
at org.eclipse.core.launcher.Main.main(Main.java:948)

As far as I can tell, I have the latest JRE installed, so this error
message is essentially useless to me.

Can anyone help with this or am I just missing something really obvious?

Are you sure you have a Java Runtime Environment installed or Java
Development Kit? If you do double check the CLASSPATH environment
variable. Finally, make sure you have the right version of the JRE or JDK.

Dan,

This error usually means your zip program did not extract the Eclipse
archive properly. Make sure you choose the option to maintain the
directory structure when extracting Eclipse. It should create an
eclipse folder, with plugins and fragments folders below it.
