Debugging Inner Class on M7 [message #150223] Tue, 23 March 2004 08:55 Go to next message

I noticed a problem when i debug an RCP (any app) with eclipse M7
I have to rebuild the project and restart it if i want to see any
modification in source code of an inner class.
Hot code replacement works well in debug on a normal java class.
Anyone has noticed the same behaviour?

Thanx

This is a limitation of the hot code replacement of the VM that you are
using.
Talk to you VM provider.

Luca,

M7, XP, 1.4.2_04 I'm not have the same problems. Hot swap works fine if
you don't change the method signature of ANY method in the class.

If that's not what you are seeing, carefully read the failure dialog.
If the vm rejected the change, the issue is in your VM not eclipse.

Hi,
I've made the same debug in eclipse 2.1.1 and eclipse M7 with the same vm
(1.4.2_03).
When i make a change in source code of an inner class, eclipse 2.1.1 works
well, but M7 doesn't take the changes.
So i think it is an eclipse problem.

I made some test to have a simple test case, but i found that hotcode
replacement works well debugging simple inner class.
But i noticed that sometimes eclipse doesn't make build on changed resourced
debugging inner class in my application .
Infact if i press CTRL+b during debug, hotcode replacement works.

I'm sorry but i don't know how to make a reproducible test case because i
don't understand what the cause is.

Thanx anyway.

If you have turned off "Perform build automatically on resource
modification" no build will occur when a resource is changed.
Ctrl-B is enabled when "Perform build automatically on resource
modification" (autobuild) is turned off.

When i made tests i had "Perform build automatically on resource
modification" turned on.
Infact hotcode replacement mostly works except for this strange behavior
with inner class in my big project.
