I have a binary, but Eclipse for some reason views it as a text file. How
can I define it as a binary? and in general, how can I change the definition
of files types?

thanks.

Goto:
Windows -> Preferences

Then Select:
General -> Editors -> File Associations

You should be able to set what to do with each file type there.
