changing sharing resources [message #142889] Mon, 13 October 2003 03:05 Go to next message

Hi All,

I'm trying to do some version management and merge two repositories of CVS
info. I've now reduced the number of repositories to one (num of possible
CVSROOT's), the only problem is that some people have checked out code and
their projects are still pointing to the old repositories. I've tried
using the standard method of "{Project Name}->Properties->CVS->Change
Sharing" but I recieve an empty select, stating that the consolidated
machine doesn't fit it's criteria ("Select a comparable CVS Repository
Location to share the project with").

What am I missing? I thought that if I created the same module from the
original server in the new repository, I could point the desktop at the
new one no worries. I think I must be thinking about this the totally
wrong way.

An before anyone asks, I realise it would be much easier to simple get
everyone to commit their work then get them to retrieve the project from
the new source. Unfortunately, because people don't know how to use
branching they are reluctant to commit their work.

Cheers,

David L

Don't worry, got it fixed. The secret was to use the team resources to
disconnect from the server without deleting cvs tags. Then it was a
simple matter of connecting to the new server.
