I would like to ask this community to consider the open source Expresso
(www.jcorporate.com) as a candidate as a foundation for the Eclipse
Webtools to provide a set of common frameworks/Services. This would also
be instrumental in getting eclipse webtools project moving. :)
The value proposition for considering Expresso is that:
* it the most popular architectural framework (largest marketshare)- it
has a 32000+ user community and more than 150,000 downloads and >4000
users on its listserv. It is widely in use, including high profile
production sites including Remax and Sony.
* see how comprehensive Expresso is at mvc2frameworks.org for a comparison
on mvc frameworks.
* Expresso builds on Struts - and was the first to do so. Expresso builds
on several open source projects. Expresso works with virtually any web
application server and database.
* Expresso maintains an excellent number of code contributions and
community involvement.
* Expresso is Stable - it was first released in June '99 and is mature
product. Our current direction is to make its components independent of
each other to simplify the framework use.
One of our contributors is in the process of completing a beta release of
an Expresso code generator (called ExpressoMaker) which will produce a
complete usable application with a couple of parameters. It generates
DBObjects (O/R mapping etc), controllers, schemas, and a set of jsps. This
will be available as an Eclipse IDE plug-in. We also have design defined
for other visual plug-in to simplify and ease development.
What is the next step in being considered? I look forward to hearing from
you.

acceptable to Eclipse.
I see there is still no movement on the Eclipse Webtools project despite
offers of involvement by volunteers.
What does this project need to get rolling?
