Memory usage and OSX - how much do you have? [message #125240] Tue, 09 September 2003 09:27

hi,

i've been having a recurring problem with both Eclipse 2.1 and M3 (
recently upgraded). When i'm working on a small project (circ. 20-30
classes) Eclipse runs as sweet as you like but when it's faced with a
larger project (50+ classes) that has external libraries, it regularly (
every 3-5 saves) crashes.

after checking the .log file it seems that it's a memory issue.

i went into the eclipse.app (show package contents) and edited the 'info.
plist' file changing the allocated memory for the VM from default to:

<string>-Xms60M</string>
<string>-Xmx500M</string>

to give it LOTS of memory. the problem still occurs.

my set up is a 12"PB 867mhz G4 with 640MB RAM which i would have thought
would be plenty.

now for the questions:

am i alone or do i share the same problem as anyone else?

how much RAM is needed?

is there some easy fix that i've not covered?

i've attached the log as i thought it may be useful.

thanks for your help
adam
