Now, I thought from reading the doc that Eclipse was localized...
If I explicitly change the default locale to US in the init method of my
editor, the locale is changed (i.o.w., my translated stings are in English
instead of French).
Has anyone observed such a behavior? Any known workaround?

Afaik Eclipse translation packs are separated downloads, they are not
included in the main distribution. I think you need to download the French
translation pack to get Eclipse to 'speak' French.
