Running GEF outside of Eclipse... [message #10819] Fri, 21 June 2002 13:54 Go to next message

I know GEF is fairly well entrenched / integrated into Eclipse, but has
there been any consideration of allowing it to run outside of Eclipse -
i.e. in a separate window and/or hosted in a web browser?

Is this possible if Eclipse was running in the background but invisible?
For instance - could you host a GEF editor inside an SWT Shell that isn't
inside Eclipse.

We've had success at running the Palette in a Shell by itself. We haven't
tried much more than that. Most things should work fine. People are using
portions of GEF in non-EditorPart contexts (for example to render a
preview), so a Shell isn't much different.

SWT cannot be hosted in a web browser, but I assume you could take an SWT
Image and convert it to its AWT equivalent.
