I know you cannot help it, but I find this rather strange. People have
made (contributed?) several configurations for various JBoss 4.0x
releases. Why oh why can't they be integrated into WTP 0.7? It took me 5
minutes and I am a dummy. For one reason or another it almost sounds
political. If someone can tell me how I have to provide the
configuration files to get them included in 0.7 I'd work my *ss off.

Gorkem,
Thank you for responding so quickly. AFTER I posted my message, I found
the documentation you wrote at
http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/jst/components/server/M4/tut orials/ServerDefinitionExplained.html
I will take a closer look at it and hope to use it to create additional
definitions. Thank you for providing it, and you can be sure I and others
will look forward to seeing the additional documentation and plug-in you
mention in your response.
I do think it would be great if the final release of WTP 0.7 did include
additional definitions. It would save people the time and hassle of doing
it themselves. Not only that, but it reduce the time and effort the same
people would need to expend distributing the definitions they go on to
create. At the same time, application servers continue to make releases
at a quick pace, so a longer term solution, such as providing
documentation and a plug-in, is needed.
Once again, I do thank you for what you have provided and look forward to
what you hope to provide.

The wtp stance is that they need vendor support in order to include the
vendor's server. Good enough. I'd also like to have jboss 4.x support
directly in the wtp, and I am curious why jboss, inc. isn't providing
support at all? Then i read the jboss-ide site and it _appears_ that
jboss seems to be incorporating the wtp into the jboss-ide. under that
scenerio, i'd imagine the jboss-ide will only support the jboss server,
and not bea/geronimo servers that wtp includes.
I guess if I were in the wtp development team, i'd kinda be inclined to
further push out a 1.0 (stable api) release, and keep throwing wrenches
at the jboss-ide folks for a bit.

Vendor support? Right... count me in then... I sell JBoss with support.
How can I contribute and support the JBoss config? If this really is the
wpt stance I'm very surprised. I can imagine they only want this out of
continuity reasons. (why did they include 3.2.3??) Does the wtp not
trust the community? Or is it really political????
JBoss is indeed incorporating wtp in its IDE and contributing add-ins
(http://www.eclipse.org/org/add_in_providers2.html#jboss), bugfixes
etc... For parts the JBoss IDE will likely only support JBoss, but for a
large part (I assume/hope) it will support other servers as well. Maybe
they can and will contribute hibernate mapping stuff. Would be a nice
addition to WTP
I do not think pushing out a stable 1.0 api just to stall things is a
good IDEa. Others (commercial and FOSS) will also get into trouble then.

examples because I needed a popular j2ee 1.3 server and I continue to
maintain JBoss 3.2.3 and JonAS (which is j2ee 1.4) as part of the
generic server framework. The rest of the generic server definitions are
usually maintained by their vendors but this is not a rule for WTP. For
instance the websphere server definition is maintained by a non-IBMer.
Any contributions including generic server definitions that we may have
must carry certain qualities and continuity is just one of them.
