Eclips hangs at the Splash Screen (Solaris8, Eclipse 3.1, JRT1.4.2_10) [message #118468] Fri, 18 November 2005 21:44 Go to next message

I installed eclipse on a Sun Blade 1500 and began using eclipse. The
system worked fine, but now (after not using it for some time) eclipse
'hangs' at the splash screen. After some period of time the splash screen
goes away.

There is a 'defunct' process left that I have to kill manually.

I have: delete the ~/workspace directory
run with "truss -f eclipse >& logfile" to look for possible errors
run with JDK1.5
patched the sun with the most recent "recommended cluster"
used the Motif & GTK versions of eclipse with similar results.

The problem persists.

If anyone has solved this problem, or has a ideas on what I can try next,
I would appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

I think I know what the problem is, but I need more information. Can
you please file a bug here:

http://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/

Against the product "Platform", and use the "SWT" component. I need
to know what window manager you are using, whether you are using remote
X, and the output of "xdpyinfo".

Also, are there any hs_err_pidXXXX.log files around? Is the JVM
spawned from the Eclipse launcher process crashing? Is there any output
on the console from which you ran eclipse?

Thanks,
-Billy
