Tooltips javadoc style [message #115330] Mon, 07 November 2005 19:00 Go to next message

I'm desperately trying to find a way to get the "tooltips"
functionality in Eclipse back. It used to be that when I'd hover the
mouse over either a built-in PHP function, or a home-grown function, it
would show the definition, along with the "javadoc" style headers if
available. I've upgraded to eclipse 3.1, and it seems I've lost this
ability. It would seem an easy enough thing to enable in the preferences,
but I just can't seem to find it anywhere. Any and all help is greatly
appreciated.

Even though I haven't received *ANY* input on this problem from any of the
lists that I've posted to, I've found a pseudo-solution. Completely
deleting every possible remnant of my previous installation of Eclipse,
downloading a new version, and installing everything through the update
manager again seems to have cleared it up. The interface has completely
changed (not sure if this due to an actual update to eclipse, or if I just
had some old libraries laying around). Anyway, it seems to work.

I was hoping to avoid completely re-installing, as I had all of my views &
perspectives setup exactly how I wanted them. It seemed like a simple
request but... anyway, it's working again. I hope this helps someone else
out there.

Please quote the original message(s) when replying. Without some
context/history of the thread it is very difficult to provide help.

As for re-installing Eclipse, it is almost never necessary to do that
just to fix a problem. It does sound as if you have upgraded to a newer
version if you notice the "new" look and feel. But still, you should
have kept the workspace from the previous install and used it with the
new version - that would have maintained your Preferences settings and
view layouts.
