report params & filtering.... and using report parameters in data set filter [message #103004] Thu, 29 December 2005 22:12

BIRT is looking great.

Generally, I'd need to determine a strategy for handling report parameters
where our app's user may select ALL vs some specific text vs pattern-match
[for string parameters]. What approaches are people implementing, esp when
have multiple data types (dates, strings, numerics) and multiple SQL
backends (Oracle, SQL Server, etc)?

One of the first things I tried was to use report params in a data set
filter expression. Doesnt look I can do that v20m3. If I had that
capability, I figured I would have scripting flexibility to implement
parameter-based filtering in a standard way across all reports, data types,
dbs (tho give up on performance by not allowing db to do the filtering).

Anyway.... what are people doing?

TIA,
-Paul
