Time: 11:00 am PT/2:00 pm ET
Duration: 60-minutes
Presented By: IBM
Overview
For nearly two decades, Erich Gamma has been at the forefront of
innovation in software development. Perhaps best known as the co-author of
the landmark book "Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented
Software", Dr. Gamma is also the developer, with Kent Beck, of JUnit, the
de facto standard in terms of unit testing tools for Java. He leads the
Eclipse Java Development tools project and is a member of the Eclipse and
the Eclipse Tools project management committees. Dr. Gamma is currently a
Distinguished Engineer working for IBM Rational Software in Zurich,
Switzerland.
In this wide-ranging interview, Dr. Gamma sits down with Jonathan
Erickson, Editorial Director of CMP Media's Software Development Group, to
discuss topics such as:
Learn how to balance cost reduction against its impact on customer
loyalty.
What was IBM's motivation in initially launching the Eclipse project?
Where will Eclipse go from here?
What are the challenges--and benefits--of Open Source software
development?
And more!
Join us for this exciting and unique session.
Featured Speaker
Dr. Erich Gamma, IBM Distinguished Engineer, IBM Rational Software,
Eclipse Leader and Noted Author
Dr. Erich Gamma is an IBM Distinguished Engineer at IBM Rational Software
and is a leader of the Eclipse (www.eclipse.org) project. He is also a
member of the Gang of Four, which is known for their book: "Design
Patterns - Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software". Erich has
paired with Kent Beck to develop JUnit, the de facto testing tool for
Java. Erich also paired with Kent Beck to write the book "Contributing to
Eclipse: Principles, Patterns, and Plug-ins".
Jon Erickson, Editorial Director, SDMG; Editor-in-chief, Dr. Dobbs Journal
In his dual role as Editorial Director of the CMP's Software Development
Media Group and Editor-in-chief of Dr. Dobb's Journal, Jonathan Erickson
has been at the forefront in tracking trends and innovation in the
software development industry for nearly two decades. In addition to
solidifying Dr. Dobb's Journal's position as the publication of record for
software development during this period, Erickson pioneered Dr. Dobb's
Journal's move into digital publishing, including CDs, DVDs, and the
Internet.
Thanks to Erickson's vision and efforts, Dr. Dobb's Journal is the world's
leading voice of online technical content for software development. Prior
to joining Dr. Dobb's Journal, Erickson was a senior technical editor for
BYTE magazine. He is also the author of 10 books, ranging in topics from
database management systems to portable computing.
