Have you tried using a local file and then c\testdir\pic.jpg?

I cut my image out of the Simple Master Page Header and pasted it into the
Body page and it shows up fine now. It looks like, at least for me, images
in the Simple Master Page don't work but they do in the Body. If I paste it
back into the Master Page it doesn't show up again.
