Problem using VE on OS X - Error trying to set new file into editor [message #6437] Sat, 29 November 2003 10:40 Go to next message

I've got VE installed on my Mac (10.3, JDK 1.4.1), and can create a VE
project successfully.
However, when I open the editor, VE reports "Error trying to set new file
into editor" "Reason:
java.lang.NullPointerException".

The preview window begins to render, but stops with a "Loading"
notification. The code editor is
open, but the left hand "palette" pain never loads.

TIA!

Adam

This version of VE is not supported on OS X. see,

I too had this problem (and noticed the existing bug report so I didn't
refile it. ;-) But, this is not mentioned anywhere that I saw while
reviewing the VE release information. It really should be noted in the
FAQ (which suggest that VE supports all Eclipse platforms) and also on
the download page (which suggests the same). It also would be nice to
have some comment on expected date or release where MacOS X will be
fully supported. I, for one, would be glad to provide debug
information, etc. to try to help get MacOS X up to speed.

Yep.

Note that MacOS support on 2.1 is considered "early
access" (see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=37708).

We will make an attempt to get VE on this platform in the v1.0.0/Elipcse
3.0 time frame. We have not tried VE on MacOS thus far mainly because
of time constraints. Hence, we do not fully understand if there are any
show stoppers on this platform for VE.

Tks. for the debug help offer; we will probably take you up on later on.
