I was trying to find out the plans were for the Web based reports designer.
We are keenly following the ERE and ERD projects but our main requirements
are around web based reporting and in that context we wanted to know if
someone could comment on the specific plans for WRD.

Arun,
Thanks for your interest in the BIRT project.
As you will likely have read from the project pages, the goal of the
BIRT Web Report Designer (WRD) is to provide capabilities that the Java
application developer can integrate into their application that provide
users with ad hoc reporting capabilities. For example, this might
include the ability for a user to write their own report by selecting
the columns they want to see, the sorting/grouping they need, and
selection criteria. The WRD will leverage the same runtime engine (the
ERE) as the Eclipse based reporting designer.
At this stage in the project, we are focusing on developing the Eclipse
Report Designer and the runtime Eclipse Report Engine -- we know that we
need to get robust capabilities in place for this technology first. We
can then look to other parts of the project that leverage this as
underlying and enabling technology. Since we are focusing on the other
components first, we are not actively working on the WRD yet -- so we do
not have any plans or timeline in place right now.
