hi,
i'm having trouble starting eclipse 2.1.0 on mac os 10.2.6. when i
double click the app's icon, it bounces for awhile in the dock, and then
*poof* -- it crashes. there's no information in the system logs. i also
tried changing jre property in the info.plist file to 1.4.1, 1.4+, etc.,
but to no avail (i think eclipse came with the property set to 1.3*).
perhaps i'm missing something. i can't find documentation on this
problem, though, and i'm getting desperate! if you can point me to a
tutorial on how to properly set up eclipse on mac os X, i would be
eternally grateful.
thank you so much for any help you can offer.
salut,

Hi Mac user,
Consult the .log file in the folder .metadata in the workspace folder
of Eclipse. This file and the .metada folder are invisibles - I use
PathFinder to deal with this. This is a great Finder replacement!!!
The .log file has certainly some info that will help.

There shouldn't be much of a setup necessary.
However, make sure that:
- you have installed the final version of Java 1.4.1 even if you are not
using it (earlier developer previews of 1.4.1 made Eclipse crash even when
running Eclipse under Java 1.3.1)
- you don't have a xerces.jar library installed in one of the standard
places. Eclipse will throw a ClassCastException.
If you still have problems, please post any Console output or the contents
of the .log file (<workspace>/.metadata/.log) here.
Thanks,
