On http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Equinox_Planning#Update.2F Provisioning
I have found that Oscar OBR support is in plan for equinox.

How can I find more information on what is going on on this item?

Many thanks,

Alessandro,

That was/is a somewhat speculative list. Basically we are interested in
all provisioning techniques. To date we have interacted with Peter
Kriens and Richard Hall on the structure of the OBR2 metadata and in
fact the Equinox resolver has been enhanced to directly support
resolving those structures. We have also started running the bindex
tool that Peter wrote to create OBR2 metadata files for the Callisto
update site. For example, if you go to
http://bundles.osgi.org/browse.php
and type in
eclipse
you will see all manner of Eclipse related bundles indexed and
accessible via the OBR2 mechanisms.

We currently do not have any special plans to further integrate OBR2 but
are certainly open to suggestions and contributions in the area. Go
some ideas?

Jeff

Jeff,

I'm not an OBR expert. At a first sight, it looks very interesting as a
provisioning mechanism that does not require the definition of features.
I understand that "features" make perfect sense for Eclipse..... but
when using Eclipse runtime to develop a "standard" business application
the concept of what is a feature and why you need them is much less
intuitive and generates much confusion.

Great.... basing the update management on just plugins and plugin
dependencies would make a lot of sense.

mmm..... Eclipse/OSGi is a wonderfully rich platform.... maybe the
management aspects could be improved. On large/complex configurations it
is not always easy to understand what's going on.... logs are a bit
sparse.... the management console is "bare bones".....

Sandro
