The problems you mentioned sound just like those others have reported when they try to run on a 3.0x base of Eclipse. We're are strictly on 3.1 (M4). That, and the specific prereqs listed on the build page are critical.
If you confirm you have Eclipse 3.1, M4, and all the right prereqs, you might want to open a bugzilla, attaching all logs, config info, etc., (available from 'help').
