Need help executing an add-on package (GEF) [message #58512] Wed, 27 April 2005 17:10 Go to next message

Hello everyone!

I have downloaded Eclipse 3.0.2 and I can execute it with no problem.
This is on a Windows XP box, Java 1.5.

I am trying to execute the GEF (Graphical Editing Framework).
I have downloaded GEF-SDK-3.0.1 and GEF-examples-3.0.1 and
unpacked them in the Eclipse directory.

I've tried 2 things:

(1) I thought perhaps that I would start Eclipse, then load GEF.
When I open Eclipse, I see the current project is something
called SWT. Under the "Project" menu, I click on "Close project".
But when I click on "Open project", it just reopens SWT;
I thought it would open a dialog box so that I could choose GEF.
I see there is a package explorer at the left, but it shows
only some SWT packages, and I don't see a way to choose others.

(2) So then I thought I would run GEF from a script or jar file
in the GEF directory. I don't see any launching scripts.
I did find a file gef.jar, but when I click on it I get
"Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute". Oops.

How is this supposed to work?

Btw I've searched the message archives and while I find several
other people have struggled with the Main-Class manifest attribute,
I don't see any solutions.

Thanks a lot for any light you can shed on this problem.

Robert,

GEF is not an application or something to be executed. It is a library
that is used by other Eclipse plug-ins for creating graphical editors.
What are you trying to accomplish?

Hope this helps,
- Jeff
