I have been to Alexa.com and have used the Website Traffic Comparisons
between the Eclipse download page with Netbeans. 12 month ago Eclipse was
the double of Netbeans and now Eclipse is about the same ?
I think we need to analyze these features because I also noticed less and
less interest among users for plugins.
I asked two majors french groups about what is going on and I got strange
answers: They said to me :
- It is almost easier to migrate from Eclipse 3.3 to Netbeans than to
upgrade all their existing plugins to Eclipse 3.4.
- I like to use an IDE but I don't really need all this framework
approach. Eclipse is too big and not flexible if just used as an IDE.
- I only use Eclipse as a visual Editor because the continuous integration
is based on Maven and launching Maven from Eclipse is not really possible
and not needed.
My personal feeling is Eclipse is a lot better than NetBeans but we are
currently not understanding users demands are therefore loosing market
shares.
I believe that a maven project for continuous integration should be
launched at the foundation level. Could the Eclipse foundation consider my
post and take it into consideration in the future Eclipse evolution.
I hope that next year when coming back to Alexa that Eclipse will again be
double of Netbeans :-)
Thanks,
