The Eclipse Visual Editor Project is proud to announce today the
immediate availability of Milestone 2 (M2) of the Eclipse Visual Editor
(VE), a graphical user interface editor for Swing and SWT.

“With the Visual Editor Project, we have made it significantly easier
for programmers to create both Swing and SWT user interfaces. This will
make it much easier to create user interfaces both for Eclipse’s new
Rich Client Platform and for traditional Swing applications,” said David
Orme, leader of the Visual Editor Project.

New features in the M2 build of VE include full support for Eclipse 3.0,
support for Linux/GTK, and initial but fairly solid support for SWT. In
addition, there have been several usability enhancements to the editor
that will make programmers’ lives easier when creating graphical user
interfaces.

Additional improvements include:

* Graphical GridLayout editor for SWT
* Fully floatable, dockable palette view
* New extensible Visual Class Wizard
* New layout customization window for setting options in SWT layout
managers.
* Much more…

The following links provide more information about the Eclipse Visual
Editor, M2:

(copied from an earlier post) Please take note that you need to install
EMF and GEF as well.

1. Download the latest stable build of the Visual Editor
- Go the the VE download page and select the latest Stable build link.
- Download the required versions of EMF and GEF linked to on that
stable build page.
- Download the VE-runtime zip.

2. Unzip the plug-ins
- If you've renamed your Eclipse installation directory
* Create a temporary directory
* Unzip EMF, GEF and VE to this directory
* Move the plugins and features directories placed in this temp
directory into your Eclipse directory (ignore any overwrite warnings)
- Otherwise
* Unzip EMF, GEF and VE to the directory above your Eclipse
installation directory.

3. Run Eclipse
- If you've installed a previous build of VE, remove the
configuration directory in your Eclipse installation directory, or
launch Eclipse with the -clean parameter.
- Launch Eclipse.

4. Create a new Visual Class
- In a Java project, select New from the context menu and select
Visual Class.

The Visual Editor should launch successfully at this point.

posting this way disrupts the integrity of the newsgroups.

You are just crossposting yourself - and (although here necessary), not
correctly.

you should have crossposted your answer to the 3 original groups, whilst
entering a "Followup-To" to the most relevant group [here:
eclipse.platform.ve]

the initial author (David J. Orme) has missed to enter an "Followup-To"
-> eclipse.platform.ve in his "cross-3-groups-message".

[btw: You should write generally _below_ the original quoted message.
And delete quotes you are not refering to.]
