BIRT 2.0: The BIRT PMC is Looking for Your Input [message #51298] Fri, 24 June 2005 13:39 Go to next message

All,

The BIRT PMC is starting the planning process for BRT 2.0, which we are
targeting for Dec this year. We want to hear from the community what
you would like to see in the BIRT 2.0 release.

If you have not done so already, please log your enhancement requests in
Bugzilla for BIRT. Or, if there is already an enhancement request for
the feature, please add your vote for that feature (and add information
on your usage scenario/needs).

The BIRT PMC would love to hear what you would like to see in the BIRT
2.0 release.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I would like to see XML schema support similar to Microsoft Infopath.

In Infopath, I can specify XML schema as data source, and then use a sample
XML document instance to test the form. I would like to able to do the same
in BIRT. i.e. specify XML schema as the data source and use sample XML
document to test the report while developing the report.

Ak,

Could you please log this into Bugzilla. If you set the version to 2.0
and list it as an enhancement, it will allow the PMC team to track the
issue. In addition, you will be given notification of status changes as
we work with this.

Also, one issue with XML is a data source is that in many cases it is
difficult to determine the proper way to de-normalize the XML hierarchy
into a collection of rows and columns. How is this handled in Infopath?

Any thoughts would be helpful,

Scott Rosenbaum

I don't see a way to vote for existing enhancement requests. Is it
possible voting isn't turned on?

I would strongly suggest OLAP support in some form or fashion. Posted a
enhancement on it as requested:
