Several questions about M1? [message #49673] Tue, 19 October 2004 17:29 Go to next message

- Is there any doc about how to use it? I haven't seen anything on the
web or in the Help System.

- How can I see the content of a Server Project? When I create a new
Server, I don't see it anywhere (I had to add manually Servers view).

- How can I set a JDK to Tomcat? In preferences page, it just specify a
JRE. I have tested a simple JSP file and it complains because it doesn't
find javac (BTW, I have set correctly JAVA_HOME in my System). What can
I do?

- I have created a Web Project and when I define a tomcat Server I can
add the whole project or webcontent folder, or both ¿?. Which is the
difference?

Thanks in advance,

Chemi.

Appears that your best bet is to use the Readme with the original IBM
contribution... the items in M1 so far appear to work much the same.

Sorry - have only used Web Projects so can't answer to this.

It specifies a JRE because you likely only have a JRE defined. Go to
Preferences->Java->Installed JREs and configure it for a JDK, and it will
then be selectable in the dropdown when setting up Tomcat.

Showing the WebContent folder looks like a bug to me. Selecting it (and
not the top level project) results in a non-functioning site. Selecting
the top-level project works as expected.

Tip for others: I had to create a new Web Project to get it recognized
correctly (coming from the older IBM contrib)... otherwise the _only_
option when setting up a Server was the WebContent folder. I just created
a new Web Project, copied everything from the old project to it, deleted
the old project, then named the new project back to the old name. I'm sure
this can be mitigated by playing with natures, but this was
straightforward to do.

So far M1 has been pretty nice. Certainly a lot faster (though at the
expense of losing all the structured editors). In some ways I wish they
had done the structured editors first, as there are already tomcat plugins
around (sysdeo). Ah well :)
