Elliott,
The SQL Editor is, as implied by its name, specific for relational databases
and SQL statements. Thus it consumes the Database (JDBC) connection profile
type only (i.e. those listed under the "Databases" category folder in the
Data Source Explorer view) .
The ODA framework is for heterogenous data sources, which are not
necessarily SQL-based.
BIRT (www.eclipse.org/birt) on the other hand is an ODA consumer
application, and thus supports any DTP ODA provider. We are adding
integration in Ganymede (DTP 1.6) to allow an ODA consumer application to
consume the "Databases" connection profile type as well.
