HTTP Proxy Standalone? [message #38722] Wed, 02 November 2005 14:55 Go to next message

Hello!

I noticed that the HTTP Recorder uses a proxy to monitor the communication.

The HTTP Proxy might be interesting for a number of other purposes
besides testing.

Is it possible to use the HTTP proxy standalone, without the TPTP
testing facility? If no, how difficult would it be to separate the proxy
from TPTP?

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,
Although not a supported use case, separating the HTTP proxy recorder
from TPTP Test is possible, albeit difficult. The HTTP proxy recorder is
spread over four TPTP plugins:

-org.eclipse.hyades.test.ui
-org.eclipse.hyades.test.tools.ui
-org.eclipse.hyades.test.core
-org.eclipse.hyades.test.tools.core

However, there is an implementation of a simple HTTP proxy server that
we use for demonstration purposes in conference tutorials. You can access
the source code at:

http://www.eclipse.org/tptp/ >> Documentation >> Conference Materials >>
EclipseWorld 2005 >> Using and Extending the Test and Performance Tools
Platform >> Source >> Simple_HTTP_Proxy_Server

Please keep in mind that the simple HTTP proxy server implementation was
only intended for demonstration purposes and will require several
performance improvements for general use.

Hello Paul,

Thank you very much for this information.

My use case is actually for some HTTP Monitor that I recently ported to
Eclipse, called WebScarab for Eclipse (http://wscarabeclipse.sf.net).
It also contains an HTTP Proxy, but I am not quite satisfied with the
performance, so I am looking for some replacement.

I tried the TPTP proxy and it performed better, so I will look into
extracting it from the plugins you indicated.

Best regards,
-Thomas
