Hi all,
This is an update on my previous announcement about the EMF and XSD team
switching over to active use of the CVS repository on Eclipse.org.
Last weekend, we populated the repository with our current codebases for
EMF, XSD and SDO. Previously, we had been versioning our source internally,
and synchronizing CVS with it when we had a release. Now, we have stopped
using our internal configuration management/version control tool, and are
committing changes directly to CVS.
We have also changed the directory structure we're using in CVS, adopting
the new recommended approach of having fewer, project-level modules, instead
of one module per plug-in, as was previously required. This means that
you'll find all of the current code under org.eclipse.emf and
org.eclipse.emf.ecore.sdo in the tools project repository, and under
org.eclipse.xsd in the technology project repository. We'll be producing a
document in the near feature that describes the new structure.
Unfortunately, there are still a number of old, single-plug-in modules
poluting the repository, obscuring what is actually needed to check out. We
have deleted their contents in the HEAD, but it's impossible to make the
modules themselves disappear, without deleting them (including all their
histories) completely. And so, we would like to do just that.
We believe that nothing will be lost, as CVS only included the code for our
releases, which is currently, and will continue to be, available in the
source packages for those releases. However, if anyone has any concerns
with this plan, we would like to hear from you.
Unless we hear any concerns, we will go ahead with this early next week.
So, please let us know immediately if this is a problem for you.
Thanks,
Dave
