I currently work in voice and would be interested in what is actually
being donated and what the proposed project plan is for the maturation
of this project? So if those in the know could speak out more on what
this group's focus will be then that might help the other lurkers here
who are just trying to understand what's going on.

Hi,
If you'd like to get an early sense of what will be donated, I would suggest
you look at the IBM's web tools contribution's structured source editor (the
XML editor). The markup editors IBM is contributing will extend that. The
idea is that going forward enhancements to the XML editor can be maintained
by a web tooling effort and the Voice Tooling effort can focus only on
leveraging their work in the voice development space. This will free voice
developers to solve the problems unique to our space, just as eclipse has
freed many companies from bring tied up in the low-level problems of
File->Open, Preference Dialogs, and so on.

What they are contributing is basically some xml context sensitive editors
and a taglibrary that can be used in jsp pages. Umtilately the application
developer is writting VXML. I believe that is the jist of it. Mr Metz can
correct me if I am wrong.

The initial contribution from IBM is a set of editors for the established
and emergine W3C standards around Voice. This is just a proposal at this
point, so nothing is available yet. See the proposal for more details:

But keep in mind that this is just an initial step! As in all Eclipse
projects there is room for future growth and it will ultimately be up to
those contributing to decide to the direction of the tooling.

I should have been more clear. At my company we develop some of the
things that Big Blue may be donating. Thus I was trying to comprehend
just what editors (and any other stuff) IBM was donating and their
respective state of development. Maybe their stuff is inferior and
shouldn't be touched with a 10' pole, maybe thier superior and we should
scrap our work or they're half and half and we should build on top and
donate the portions we don't consider as a strategic advantage.
Basically when I can see the code, the same as when IBM donated to the
WTP then I will be better informed on how we might go about joining in
developing on this project.
